He also tries contacting Takuro, only for this to result in Hiroshi, Takuro, Mika, and Takeshi's inevitable return to the Jailhouse. Once in the mansion the group begins to recover their memories, which convinces Takeshi that this is punishment for the suicide of Naoki.

Takuro had bullied Naoki until he jumped out in traffic, which had also resulted in the death of Anna's parents and her gaining paranormal abilities. While initially resistant, Takuro later adopts this same belief and also begins to truly regret his prior actions and personality, particularly after Mika dies and Hiroshi self-sacrifices in order to save him.

Disheartened and certain that this is Naoki's vengeance, Takuro considers killing himself on the mansion's roof as penance but is saved by the arrival of Anna and Shun, who convince him to jump off the roof. This resets the game and brings Mika, Takeshi, and Hiroshi back to life. Only Takuro, Anna, and Shun retain their memories, which results in Takuro gaining a change of heart.

The book ends with the ghost of Naoki tormenting Takeshi during his sleep, intent on gaining revenge for his death. To this end he adds tablet capable of contacting him in the outside world, on the back of which is a keycard capable of instantly letting the trapped individuals out of the mansion. However due to a lack of sleep he isn't awake to see the demon discover the tablet. Many elements that are present in those mediums are implemented here: ultraviolence, martial arts action, two fisted gun toting, and of course doe-eyed characters.

Fans will also appreciate the fully animated intro sequence. As far as the controls go though Let me say that the control configuration is incredibly difficult as every button is used frequently including the never used L3 and R3 buttons. In addition, instead of the camera constantly following behind Konoko, you must steer it with the right analog stick while controlling Konoko's movements with the direction pad.

Yes, this can get difficult, especially when fighting multiple enemies from all different sides. However, once you do become prolific with the control interface, you are treated to some incredibly cool action sequences as Konoko punches one bad guy in the face, uses him as a springboard, spinkicks another bad guy in the chest and then draws her mercury bow and freezes a third bad guy who heard the commotion from the next room. It takes a bit to get used to, but toughing it out is worth it.

Yes, you control the action and unless you don't enjoy Jackie Chan fight sequences you will not find this game to be any fun. As the game progresses, Konoko has to complete various missions such as infiltrating corrupt corporations, shutting down a supercomputer that achieved self awareness, and fighting a bevy of original assassins in climactic movie style.

The characters, both good and bad, are all unique and bring a real feel to the game. Personally, I liked watching the cut sequences showing cool looking assassins talking about their nefarious deeds and how they are going to kill Konoko. During the various missions, Konoko is constantly being monitored by her android assistant Shinatama. Shinatama advises her of any changes in the mission and reports Konoko's status to Commander Griffin.

What makes the Oni really, really scary is not actually his appearance. It is the sound that accompanies him. When you are in a room and the Oni is close the game has this horrible music that sounds like it was ripped out of a horror movie! You are just minding your business looking around and then when that music hits…… you need clean underwear.

Ok, so I have told you that Ao Oni is a game that is very scary, but is it fun to play? I think that Ao Oni is more like a puzzle game than anything else. You will need to explore the house as best you can and find various items. You then need to figure out where these items need to be used and solve the different puzzles you come across. Of course, the fact you are being stalked constantly by the Oni makes it very hard and unnerving.

Making things even harder is that your dub buddies are also walking around the house and if the Oni captures them he turns them into another Oni! It does have some replay value as there are a couple of different endings for you to experience, one of which is really creepy.

For horror fans, playing through Ao Oni is a no brainer. It is very unnerving and while having a little more story may have made the game even better. I do feel that not knowing does make the game scary.
