Woods game face
We check out the new photo game face feature in Tiger 08, and put our own faces in the game. Though in-depth character creation has long been the specialty of role-playing or action games, one of the best creation tools in gaming can be found, of all places, in a golf series, namely Tiger Woods PGA Tour. For years now, the game face technology that powers the character creator has continually evolved, giving the player more flexibility when creating their virtual duffer with each passing season.
With the upcoming Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 , the game face tool takes another step forward, this time by letting players import pictures of their own face and map it onto their virtual player.
Curious about this new feature, we rounded up a few GameSpot editors along with a few other hapless victims as virtual guinea pigs to see how the new feature works, and how closely we could match the virtual golfers to the real thing.
You can import your image in two ways: by snapping a photo of yourself in the game using your Xbox Live Vision Camera or PS3 EyeToy, or by uploading previously snapped digital photos of yourself to an EA Web site, and accessing that photo via your console.
You can choose to take either one or two photos for your game face--a required frontal head shot, and an optional profile shot.
Taking two photographs will result in a more detailed final product, naturally. You'll want to follow a few basic guidelines when taking photos to get the best possible results:. If you're looking to use a digital camera for your photo game face, the process is slightly different, but still quite easy.
Take a front and side shot with your digital camera using the tips above, then upload them to an EA Sports Web site we used a test site for our purposes and make some fine adjustments to the photos for things like facial positioning and lighting. Once complete, you simply go back to the game, request to download pictures from the Web, and the game will provide you with thumbnails of all the pics you've uploaded.
Choose the pics you want from the available list and then move on to the next step. Once you have your pictures in order, it's time to set the markers that will help the game build your face. For both your front and side shot, you'll need to set markers--small dots--to line up with various guide points on your face, such as your eyes, your chin, jaw line, and so on.
Check out the GameFace II system in action. Double-click on the video window for a full-screen view. EA Sports pretty much has a lock on the video game golf market with its popular and high-quality Tiger Woods series. In our first of a series of question-and-answer sessions with the game's developers, we'll be discussing the update to the GameFace system, which lets you customize your golfer to a truly impressive extent.
Producer Dave Woldman and lead engineer Jim Brooks fill us in on all the details. Why change a good thing? Technologically, what has changed? Dave Woldman: In Tiger Woods PGA Tour , we feel we set the standard in character creation, giving those who play the game the ability to create themselves with a high degree of accuracy.
However, one area we really wanted to improve was in the level of overall detail in the face. To accomplish this we introduced texture compositing to allow you to blend facial detail in the character.
In Tiger Woods PGA Tour , we gave the users the ability to simply choose a skin texture rugged, blemished, and so on , but in Tiger Woods PGA Tour , through texture blending, the user will have total control of how they look. They will be able to add and blend all the elements of a face to make it unique and add real character.
If it's in the GameFace II system, it's in the game. Additionally, to allow you to create anyone from ages 8 to 80, we introduced bone scaling in the product, allowing you to set the height, weight, and build of your created character.
July - last edited July July So, almost a month ago this thread was marked as resolved as a temporary measure. Is there any news on a fix yet? A fix to the face in UFC looking nothing at all like the photos or the website I mean, of course. A cynical man would say that it was marked as resolved purely to massage your statistics on resolving problems within acceptable time frames.
You should now be able to just directly visit www. Any confirmation whether it works or not would be great. We will be reaching out to those individual users that are still experiencing issues post our website update. Installed the latest update to the Game Face creator last night, and I can make a great likeness of myself on the acual website, but when uploaded to UFC 14 on PS4, the face doesn't even look remotely close to me.
I get that some of the hairstyles won't convert, but what is the point if I can't even get something in the game that at least looks close? The upload to the game took less than 30 seconds, like it randomly selected a face without trying to render my uploaded game face. A number of years ago, the game face creator for Tiger Woods PGA Not sure which installment on xbox would give me a great likeness of myself even though it was a frozen face.
Same issue here on xbox one, if you figure out the problem please let me know. My wife and I are going crazy trying to figure this out. I've done every suggestion, idea or "soloution" offfered.
